BUFFALO (WKBW) – There’s a new Elmwood Village hotspot, with a modern feel, that’s perfect for a date night or a family reunion.
Buffalo Kitchen Club at 431 Elmwood Avenue has only been open for a few weeks, but is already making quite an impression in one of Buffalo’s most famous neighborhoods.
“It’s already been a crazy start,” says Shawn McGee, “I feel like Elmwood really embraced us.”
McGee owns the Buffalo Kitchen Club with his wife Raelean. The couple were sweethearts at Sweet Home High School. The restaurant held its grand opening on October 8.
“We’re really excited for people to see who we are,” says Raelean. “During the week we have lunch and dinner. On Saturday and Sunday we offer our brunch with live jazz music.”
Buffalo Kitchen Club hoped to open more than two years ago, but was put on hold due to the pandemic. The couple say the break was frustrating but gave them time to find the perfect vibe for their new restaurant.
“We love taking our kids to restaurants, but we also love date nights,” says Shawn. “Our biggest thing was finding a hybrid so we could do both.”
And that hybrid vibe is evident as soon as you walk through the door. After all, Buffalo Kitchen Club is truly a family affair.
“It’s me and my wife. My dad, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law and my other sister,” Shawn says. “They say it takes a village. It really takes a village.”
“Just so we can have something as a family and do it all together. It’s great working together. It brings us closer,” says Ashley Booker, Shawn’s older sister.
The result is not only a modern atmosphere, but also incredible cuisine featuring everything from handhelds, wings and steaks, to pasta and seafood.
“Our famous dish is our fried lobster. It could change your life,” says Shawn.
This fried lobster dish is one of Chef Dwight Land’s inspired creations.
“I cook every dish as if it were for my mother,” says Chef Land. “She’s a super important person in my life. If she’s happy, everyone will be happy.”
One taste and you know Chef Land’s mother must be beaming.
My photographer Lou Chilleli and I also sampled the drunken garlic prawns and paella which included clams, king crab and saffron rice. All three courses were fantastic.
Looking for a drink to accompany your meal? Head to the bar where bartender Joe Caruana will be happy to serve you one of the many specialty drinks on the menu.
Mix live music and karaoke night, and Buffalo Kitchen Club has the perfect recipe for a new attention-demanding restaurant.
Buffalo Kitchen Club also plans to one day offer customers restaurant memberships that will allow holders to get drink discounts and access to an exclusive menu.
“The hope is to bring my artistic flair and a vision for the restaurant, to make a name for myself and become an Elmwood staple,” says Shawn.
With that in mind, there’s no doubt that the family-owned and operated Buffalo Kitchen Club is off to a strong start.
