Chippy competitively priced with an extensive menu featuring burgers, pies, kebabs and jacket potatoes

This is without a doubt one of the most British dishes – flaky cod in golden batter with a huge portion of thick chips. But, if you’re like me, you have to be in a good mood for fish and sometimes I crave something meatier.

This is where the Tunstall Fish Bar comes in. Although this is traditional fish and chips in every sense of the word, the menu is so extensive that it caters for all tastes. Looking for a kebab for lunch, I went to this institution in Tunstall that has been around for two decades.

At the Tunstall Fish Bar, customers have a choice of breaded fish and batter. Along with burgers, pies, and kebabs, this takeout also offers breakfast sandwiches, omelets, and jacket potatoes. All this can be washed down with fresh coffee,

Opting for chicken meat, chips and salad, I paid the reasonable price of £5.50. It took about five minutes to prepare my order and the service was cheerful and polite.

Wanting to make sure my food was still piping hot, I sat down in the square and dug into my meal. The chicken portion was very generous and the fries were hot. I would have preferred more salad but that’s just me.

After I finished eating, I went back to talk to Adam Cotton, the manager of Tunstall Fish Bar. The 25-year-old said: “I’ve been working here for five years, it’s been open for 20 years, it’s been the same owners since I started. We try to keep prices as low as possible.

“There are Scallywags around the corner, so we have to keep prices competitive. It’s good because the store has had the same owners for so many years with the same staff, it’s a family business. We get very good reviews.

“With the cost of living crisis we have struggled a bit, we are trying to keep our specials as low as possible. The same number of people came even with the current situation. We have the same regulars every Friday. Every Friday we do a special fish, chips and peas for £5. »

The chip shop has an indoor restaurant with eight tables which Adam says is very popular with customers. They open at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
