Summer means weather outside, sunshine, beaches, maybe tossing a Frisbee and, of course, smashing up an apple pie and putting it in your McFlurry.
It might not be the first thing most people think of in the summer, but McDonald’s (MCD) – Get the McDonald’s Corporation report has a number of promotions designed to get into the summer discussion.
This is generally not typical of fast food chains. Wendy’s (MAGNIFYING GLASS) – Get the Wendy’s Company report (The) has a summer strawberry salad that it brings back seasonally, but that’s usually the full extent of summer-specific promotions in this space.
International restaurant brands (RSQ) – Get the report from Restaurant Brands International Inc. Burger King has a steady stream of promotions throughout the year, but it didn’t offer a 4th of July Whopper or anything that screams “hey, it’s hot, come get a burger and fries.” .
McDonald’s, however, has embraced the summer season on both sides of the pond. He’s going “camping” in the US and he has a summer menu in the UK, some of which may (one day) travel to North America.
McDonald’s may not know what camp is
The fast-food chain has billed its summer promotion in the United States “Camp McDonald’s”. It’s a very loose designation for what’s essentially a month of freebies plus some once-secret menu items that make their way to the actual menu through the company’s app.

McDonald’s also offers special products and features a different DJ every Sunday. Yet, even if the promotion itself is a little silly, the offers are very real:

- 7/20 McFlurry Sandwich Menu Hack: Free cookies with purchase of McFlurry

There are no swimming lessons or softball games on the list, but the fast-food chain is betting heavily that its often-broken McFlurry machines hold up.
McDonald’s also has a summer menu
You have to go to the UK if you want to try McDonald’s summer menu, but it has a number of choices that would fit easily into its US menu.
These include the Crispy Chicken Italiano, a crispy chicken fillet topped with a slice of tomato, mozzarella, basil pesto-style sauce, red onions and lettuce served in a ciabatta-style bun. freshly grilled; and the Italian stack, two beef patties, mozzarella, onions, crispy onions, rich tomato sauce, lettuce and creamy cheese sauce, all served in a tomato and basil flavored bun freshly grilled.
The fast-food giant also has Mozzarella Dippers, essentially mozzarella sticks on its summer menu (perhaps some British McDonald’s executives spend their summers in Italy).
But the highlight of the summer menu — and one item that would be a big candidate for a move to the United States — is the Tiramisu McFlurry, which the chain describes as “a soft, swirled dairy ice cream with chocolate-flavored chunks and a deluxe coffee and chocolate flavored sauce.”
These items may not be available in the US yet, but people in the UK don’t have access to Camp McDonald’s so they missed out on the Apple Pie McFlurry and a chance to get a pool float Grimace.
