Alamo Heights-area restaurant The Hayden will be offering a Judeo-Chinese Christmas menu next week in homage to a tradition owner Adam Lampinstein shares with other members of America’s Jewish community.
Many Jewish families go out for Chinese food and a movie on Christmas Eve, as they celebrate the separate religious winter holiday of Hanukkah.
“As all of our friends open presents under the tree, grab ham and sip eggnog, we honestly have nothing else to do and so this tradition has probably been born,” Lampinstein said in a statement. “We are social people and want to go out and do something! ”
Hayden’s special menu, available December 21-23, features five courses, including pastrami fried rice, egg and matzo soup, lox Rangoon, and Chicken Everything – a crispy “sesame” chicken with a frosting. apricot and an “all” seasoning à la bagel from the bakery.
On the days it is offered, the menu will be available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. or until sold out. The Hayden is located at 4025 Broadway St.
