Hey, let’s face it: there are those who would argue that Applebee isn’t a fine dining experience. It’s true; they’re over there. The place certainly has its critics, but in the end, Applebee’s has been around as long as it has for one reason: consistent food, served to happy customers that keep coming back. Today we’ll be looking at the top 10 menu items you need to get to Applebee.
As a child of the 80s myself, I know full well that the trends and/or companies that started in such a boom time for the economythe arts and the world, was made to last, and the same can be said of this restaurant chain.
This was founded in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer, and it certainly made a name for itself and certainly was, or rather became, an institution for families and groups of friends to eat, drink and… well, you know the rest.
But which items on Applebee’s menu have stood the test of time? Which new menu items are the best to taste?
10. Quesadilla Burger
So how about this for a combo of kitchens? Eh ? You’re talking about Tex-Mex, aren’t you, dear readers? Here you combine the quesadilla for all it’s worth, and inside you put a burger, and well, it’s really perfect. Good if you are feeling adventurous but at the same time know that you are guaranteed to love it. If you like Tex-Mex and burgers, sure.
9. BBQ Brisket Tacos
Once again the Tex and Mex combo is present here, big time. The brisket is a southern specialty and really adding the tortilla here takes this one on the edgeby adding the crisp to smoked and braised brisket, and those are really the two best ways to prepare a meat in order to achieve maximum flavor over time.
8. Crunchy Thai salad
Hey, everyone is watching weight and old cholesterol, so a salad once in a while is definitely good for you, right? But who said it had to be boring or tasteless? The prawns here, which some have called the bacon of the sea, make this dish not only bearable, but delicious and something you’ll definitely come back for.
7. Four Cheese Mac and Cheese with Honey Pepper Chicken Strips
I mean, it’s right there in the title isn’t it? First you have your mac and cheese, and what more could you want from pasta, right?
But then you add the wonder that is the delicious chicken strips…oh yeah, and the extra honey pepper kick that takes this dish to the moon and stays there…. He doesn’t even come back, not even for the holidays. This one is a rocket for the taste buds for sure.
6. The Tipsy Zombie
Well, who said you couldn’t enjoy a good cocktail, two or three? Just in time for Halloween. If you’re heading to your local Applebee’s this weekend (as of this writing), or even just after the 31st, you’re bound to get this hilariously appropriate drink as a pre-dinner item to get you in the right mood. mood for a delicious meal.
Don’t drink too much of it, or you’ll be the drunken zombie on your way out…ah, I finally got the name of the drink. Funny.
5. Dulce De Leche Cheesecake
Popular in South America, Dulce de Leche is prepared by heating milk and sugar, but different from a custard, where it is whipped in a bain-marie by the minute, this preparation takes longer… the milk and sugar are heated for a long time. period, slowly…several hours in fact, and it tastes delicious.
It’s basically like a good tomato sauce…a 30 minute stir-fry will never taste like a sauce that boils for hours; any Italian grandmother will tell you that. Anyway, this cheesecake here has the typical dulce de leche flavors present in it. Wondering if they shipped it from South America? Either way, they nailed the flavor and this is one of their best dessert menus.
4. Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp
The theme of this room or the Applebee’s menu in its entirety is this: Combos that will make your mouth water and your stomach rumble. They’ll hear you coming a mile away after reading this, your stomach rumbling like Godzilla in Manhattan, ripping through traffic your way to try these dishes.
This one is the perfect earthy and earthy mix that brings together two of the greatest things on earth…chicken and shrimp, and with a side of their delicious mashed potatoes…you’ll come home much smoother than when you’ve entered all of Godzilla.
3. Spinach and Artichoke Dip with Nachos
Okay, so an article like this goes a long way; especially if you are going for a drink and don’t want a full bulky meal to accompany those drinks. The dip is the star here. Nacho chips are simple but effective for sure; but diving is the star attraction here.
2. Spicy Maple Glazed Popcorn Shrimp
Alright… so prawns have made it to this list again and for the third time… forgive me, but like I said, bacon from the sea, right?
Popcorn shrimp are definitely easy to eat. They’re in the bowl there, and you dig in, maybe during a conversation or watching the game on TV, or heck, even Dancing With The Stars, and the next thing you know, they’re gone.
Dangerous is the name here, and oh-so-hard to resist. Add a maple glaze to the works and you have a recipe for disaster that no amount of time spent on the Stairmaster can solve. Applebee guys… what are you doing to me, man??
1. Classic Bacon Cheeseburger
And we’ll end the play with a classic. I’ve referenced bacon enough times on this list, and so we end it with the most OG of all dishes and perhaps the simplest yet most fitting…the bacon cheeseburger. Applebee does classic justice. Simple, perfectly garnished and served with golden fries. Pair this with your favorite drink and you’ll be right at home.
