United Airlines updates the “Onboard Bistro” menu

United Airlines is updating its new “Bistro on Board” menu in August, giving Economy Class passengers several new onboard shopping options.

New “Onboard Bistro” choices on United Airlines

Although United does not serve free food on most domestic routes, fresh meals are available for purchase on flights 1,500 miles or more departing during meal service windows.

Starting August 1, United is refreshing its onboard menu, with new selections available for purchase on board. Some passenger favorites, like the breakfast sandwich and cheeseburger, will remain.

For flights of 1,500 miles or more departing between 5:00 a.m. and 9:59 p.m., the following options will be available for $8 each:

  • Banana Blueberry Oatmeal
    • Banana flavored rolled oats of the day served on a layer of blueberry purée.
  • Asian Bagel Sandwich
    • Egg patty, cheddar cheese and bacon on an asiago bagel

For flights of 1,500 miles or more departing between 10:00 a.m. and 8:59 p.m., the following options will be available for $10 each:

  • Southwestern Chicken Salad Shaker
    • Layered salad mixer with brown rice, black beans, chili-lime diced chicken, roasted corn, red peppers, red onion, pepper jack cheese, and cilantro.
  • Brioche burger with bistro sauce
    • Beef patty topped with cheddar cheese, pickles and bistro sauce on a buttered brioche bun
  • Fresh cheese and fruit platter
    • Old cheddar, Fontiago cheese, Grand Cru cheese, Partners crackers, seedless red grapes, Bonne Maman fig jam, Frango mint chocolate

Cash and credit cards are not accepted on board; your credit card must be pre-stored on united.com or the United mobile app.

It remains unclear whether United will reinstate free meals in the EconomyPlus cabin on premium transcontinental routes, as was the case before the pandemic.

I’ve tried the brioche burger and the asiago bagel sandwich and find them both satisfying. Personally, I can’t wait to try the Southwest Chicken Salad Shaker, which sounds quite delicious.
